Halloween is such a weird time for Christians. Do we dress up and participate in this event, or do we stand firm in what our churches have told us and “steer clear”. I am of the persuasion that Halloween is just another day, it is no different than anyother day unless we make it different. My children dress up for Halloween, they trick or treat, they enjoy the fun of this day, yet at the same time it is a great opportunity to minister to their hearts on a very spiritual level.
I was listening to our christian radio station yesterday morning while taking Emma to school, like I always do, when I heard a great analogy. Halloween offers us the opportunity to share with our children that God see’s through our costumes to the real person on the inside. For the longest time Elijah wouldnt wear a costume because it scared him to look so different than what he did on an every day basis, he cried when we would go pick out halloween costumes and would end up wearing camo pants and a green t-shirt almost every year because that wasnt so far out of his ordinary. We grabbed that opportunity and shared with him a christian application to halloween. Even though the ghosts and monsters are scary looking, God knows what is underneath.
So this year, we will dress up and we will enjoy what, atleast to us, is another family fun day- and we will teach our children a christian application for a day that the world- and Christians- have turned into something far worse than it has to be. Its all in what you make it. I encourage you to take the time today to share a biblical application to Halloween with your children. I encourage you to make today a family day, take it back and use it for Christs Glory!

Cute!!! :)
by RebeccaThank you for shedding some balanced light on this topic. In our Christian home, Halloween was more a family evening than anything else. We usually made doughnuts and apple cider in between passing out treats to those who were brave enough to knock. (Out house was that “creepy old house”)
by thebassplayerswifeGreat pics. For us it is very much as it is for your household. Another opportunity to have some fun. Great lesson for the kids on God’s perspective on our lives. I’ll be sharing that with the kids tonight.
by alisonFocus on the Family has a great book called “Redeeming Halloween” that I highly recommend. They have several ideas of how to “take back” the holiday and have fun with your family. I’ve even adapted one of the ideas for use in my Sunday School class.
by triciaWe share your ideas on Halloween. We steer clear of the creepy and have fun.
Waaay cute pics!

by Heather*sigh of relief* Thank God for the freedom we have to choose according to our conscience! Thank you for this breath of fresh air.
by FaerylandmomThat’s similar to what we said this year, “Take it back for God! Make it a family day.”
