One day down….
February 26, 2007
We had a really great day….a really really great day. I was a bit skeptical because I thought my children would be bored out of their minds, coming from a very cram packed activity full day at school, to home. I was wrong. I was also planning on letting them have a break before jumping into academics, again I was wrong.
Easton decided Saturday night that she wanted to start a book report. I explained to her that 1) it was Saturday and 2) she didnt have to do school yet. She quickly replied with the fact that she wanted to do a report because she knew I wouldn’t put red marks all over her paper. She is writing a report on each chapter, and is now on Chapter 4 of her Judy Moody book.
Elijah woke up this morning and asked if he could play his XBox for a little while. I said that was fine while I got Emma Grace ready for school, but then it would need to be turned off. My dad came to pick Em up to take her to school and when I walked back to Elijahs room, he had dressed himself (which was adorable btw) and was sitting at his desk. He asked to do math.
Let me repeat that.
He asked to do math.
I opted out of math, and went for the area he struggles with the most- reading/sounds. He has a speech problem so sounds are quite hard for him. He did 4 worksheet pages, (including coloring) and asked to do more.
Let me repeat that.
He asked to do more.
We took a trip to the library, where both kids checked out books for book reports (see a pattern here?) and then headed to Golf lessons. They had a blast there, and cant wait to go back. Tomorrow we have HS group at the park, which I am really looking forward to.
It was an awesome day. I have amazing children. I cant wait to take this journey with them-
Sprittibee sent me this quote today, which was such an encouragement:
“When we started homeschooling,I felt as if I tucked a child under each arm and jumped off a cliff. Imagine my surprise to discover we had wings!†-Maura Seger
Tomorrow I will tuck them under each arm again and tackle Day 2 :)

I would love to hear from you!

Sounds like an awesome first day!!!
WTG sis!
love to all.
I am glad it went well!
That is fantastic! Kids really do like to learn at their own speed in their own timing.
Hugs to you!
What a lovely day!

Glad to hear all went better than imagined! Thats awesome. I hope it continues as well, and I know it will be a learning process for you all. Have a great week!
It sounds like you had a great day! Remember, part of the fun of homeschooling is doing school whenever you want. Saturday? Why not? Thursday night at 7:30? That works too!!
Keep up the fun!
Heather,
I am so very proud of you. Your last couple of posts about homeschooling have been much needed inspiration to me. I’m going through the “I don’t think I can do this anymore” phase, and your words are helping.
Sounds like you are on the right track. Glad it was such a stellar first day!!!
Wow. That’s really encouraging. I’m so happy for you!
That’s awesome, Heather! I’m glad to hear that you guys had such a great first day.
That quote is really encouraging!
Wow, that is awesome! Its a great thing when kids love schooling. I hope everyday is a day like that for you.
What an encouraging start! I’m so glad your day went well. I think you’re so brave for jumping into this. I have considered homeschooling my daughter for kindergarten next year, but it is an overwhelming thought.
I love the quote you included! Enjoy these days with your children :-){}, C
sounds GREAT!
I’m so glad to hear it’s going well- this is definitely inspiring!
How awesome! I love the quote! You’re giving me lots of hope as I start off homeschooling in September with Rach. She’d start now but I’m the one who is waiting. LOL! I just don’t know which curriculum to start with yet. I look forward to hearing more about your homeschooling journey. :) I’ll have to find time to visit Moms of Grace homeschool chat section too. :0)
Hey! Congratulations! I hope you and yours will ease into a wonderful lifestyle of learning so that the line between “school” and “no school” will eventually be blurred.
You children sound like excellent candidates for homeschooling — naturals!
I’m so excited for you! ;) Believe me, you’ll have plenty of bad days ahead… but remember that everything in life has ups and downs. Remember the greater goals and the bigger picture and rely on the Lord to lead and strengthen you along the way. Enjoy the peaks and trudge through those valleys… but ALWAYS enjoy EVERY minute with those precious kids!!!
By the way, Email me some time - I have a proposition to make you as far as design stuff goes! ;0)
