Curriculum
March 7, 2007
Ive gotten alot of questions regarding what curriculum we are using, so I thought I would share them here :)
Math: Singapore Math I chose this because it came highly recommended by many people, including Laura who is using it at the moment also. I was impressed with their online placement testing and how easy they made the process of finding out where your child is at, academically.
Reading, Spelling, Handwriting, Science: A Reason For Curriculum
This is a new Christian curriculum that my kids have really enjoyed. I am not sure that we will continue with this specific curriculum next year, it will depend on what we find at the homeschooling conference in May (I am soooo excited about that!)
History: Winter Promise This is also a new curriculum that has received raving reviews. We will be doing this subject with Laura and her children!
English: English for the Thoughtful Child
I have always loved this curriculum. I highly recommend it!
We are also doing chapter reports on Judy Moody books (Easton loves these books) and Elijah and I are reading through The Magic Treehouse series (the online reading units are great!
We are going to the Florida Homeschooling Conference in May to look at curriculum for next year. The kids are very excited about this trip (we are staying with Laura and her kids in a hotel for 3 days!) I am anxious to see what is out there, and preview it in person. I am also excited about the fact that most of the authors of the curriculum attend these conferences so I can pick their brains!
I have loved this last week, and cant wait to see what the future brings us in this journey. I am amazed at the children my husband and I have raised, and even though we have always been very close, it is so nice to “get to know” them again on a daily basis. I cant put into words how proud I am of each of my children, but most especially my oldest daughter. She is turning into such a beautiful young lady. Watching her help Elijah during the day, while still doing her own school work has been a joy… Despite the errors I have made as a mom, I am so proud of the person she is turning out to be.
Its nice to watch their relationship grow closer- even though they have their moments of sibling rivalry! It just feels so right having them home. I know in the future, there will be moments where I second guess my self and my ability but I am slowly feeling secure in my new role as their teacher- and no matter what I will always treasure my role as their mom!

Sounds like you guys are doing great! I am happy you have found something that works so well! Keep us updated on all the new things you all learn together! Love ya!
Cool, cool, cool. Did I mention I’m glad you are going through this before I have to make my decision whether or not to- it’s really neat to see someone who is just starting out with it and how it is changing your and their lives for the better and so on. It’s making me feel not so afraid of doing it myself… :)
Heather,
You will be so empowered and encouraged at the convention. I’ve been nearly every year and am greatly hoping to be there again this year. I would love to hook up with you!

Congratulations on your decision to homeschool. I’ve engaged in a homeschool experiment for the past five months. It’s a trip, that’s for sure. Good luck!
