Need your help (and loads of pictures!)

The kids are doing an Inventors co-op with our homeschooling group. The assignment is to do a study on an Inventor or Invention. We (Easton and Elijah too!) would like to hear from you what your favorite inventions/inventors are (and if you have pictures of said invention/inventors, that would be super!). There is a presentation due, which they are very excited about!

They have thought about the invention of basketball, crayons, and of course the oh so famous xbox. But both are still mulling over all of their possibilities. So if you have any ideas that could help them out, please send them!

We have a busy week ahead of us (This week is spring break for public schools). The kids are most excited about Thursday, when they get to go on a real live fossil dig with a real fossil digger/finder (that would not be the professional term, I know!) I’m excited too, Science was/is one of my favorite subjects.

Last week we went to the County Fair (pictures below) and had a blast with Laura’s family. The kids had so much fun!

I am also helping head up the Homeschool Blog Awards this year (with Sprittibee and Laura) and have also started journaling our homeshcooling adventure at Sand Sea And School. If you are a homeschool family, please consider joining us at the homeschool awards this year, it is going to be alot of fun!

Miss Emma is doing wonderfully- she is on spring break this week too, so we plan on doing quite a bit out of the house. She got a new bike (it attaches to mine) so we have been riding around the block a bit. The entire time she has her eyes closed and shouts a continual “Weeeeee”. Its quite cute! She is doing great in school, and starting to talk in full sentences. She came home last week and when I asked her what she did at school, instead of getting the normal “I go to school today” she said “I go to the Library” .. “I go to the playground”… “I go on swings”… She really is doing great! They have been working hard on pronouns and sentences, she can also say her abc’s (minus lmnopqrstuvwxyz- but who’s counting, right?)

I hope you are all doing well.. I miss blogging here, but have loved loved loved the time I am spending with my amazing children! It has been so wonderful “getting to know” them all over again!

I don’t know how to post pics in a comment, but toilet paper ranks right up there as one of my favorite inventions!

My personal favorite would have to be Josephine Cochrane, inventor of the dishwasher. Yesiree, a wonderful timesaving invention.
I think you guys are going to have so much fun with this one– inventions are fun!

If i were a kid, i would probably be interested in who invented barbie, Mr. Sketch scented markers, running shoes, Freezies, or Ketchup–

They were all my staple items as a kid.

I think you should at least consider Einstien, since all three could be mistaken for dear ol Albert; just a thought. (Yes I think they are geniuses (is that spelled right?) :)

I’m a Leonardo da Vinci fan. I’ll ask my boys for a kids eye view and get back.

You don’t want to know about the invention I was thinking about making tonight.

    Other inspiring inventions:

    Computer
    Cell Phone
    *Chipotle Burrito* (YUMM)
    Printing Press
Internet (there’s got to be something about Al Gore out there on this one)
    Playing Cards
    Public Schools (nah!)
    neon lights
    cars (duh)
Star Wars (behind the scenes - my son made me put that one in here)
Kaden’s favorite invention God made is “insects”
    blogs
    chocolate
that little camera that goes inside people’s bodies for surgery
    velcro
    prism
    ball-point pens
    ipod

…and here’s a really unique one for you: Larry Spring’s Magnetic Levitation Solar Powered Mendocino Brushless Motor … he has THE MOST amazing Physics research and astounding info on the Spring Atom and Magnespheres… HIS SITE ROCKS. I LOVE IT. If only it were MY SITE. Can you make me a site like that? I’ll write you in to my will.

Especially if you can snag that music for me. ;)

    OK… I’ll shut up now.

OH, and by the way, I need you or Laura to post something explaining exactly HOW the voting will happen. Am I right in assuming that all I have to do is give you the nominees and the site does the rest of the voting work? Can you explain it in a post on the HSBAwards site for everyone else? I got questioned about it tonight via email.

It seems you’ve already been given quite a few great ideas, and since my mind is about blank right now, I won’t add to those suggestions. :)

And… do NOT feel bad about not having computer time to post. I’ve been looking around just a little on MOG (since I just finally got internet connection, and then was gone again as soon as that happened… ugh) and I see how non active you are there, too. So you just homeschool those lil’ blessings, and don’t worry about the computer. It’ll still be here when you need it. :)

My son did a report on the creator of basketball and their was a lot of great info online. I could find his report in my files…sorry about that. It is probably on the old computer downstairs.

It seems you had a great time with your kids. I so enjoyed homeschooling mine. It is amazing how much you do learn about them when you are with them all day.

    Hugs to you!

My favorite inventor is A.C. Gilbert who invented the Erector set. Mainly because we have a museum named after him (showcasing his work) just half an hour away. They have lots of wonderful exhibits there. And there are TONS of websites about Mr. Gilbert and the Erector Set. If it’s not too late to share…
    Here’s a couple.

Wow inventions, what an amazingly broad subject. I wouldn’t know where to start.

Heather, I notice you haven’t been here for a while now, I guess you didn’t get to go o the conference in May. I hope all is going well for you. Have you someone to homeschool the kids while you cope with everything else that is going on just now.
