My Inner Race Horse
Every so often, I find myself like a deer in the headlights, caught focusing on things that are of no importance. I lose my focus on what is important, and slowly everything around me starts to change its appearance. My self esteem starts to dwindle, I begin to doubt myself and my choices.
It reminds of why the race horse wears blinders. When racing, the horses have to keep their eyes on the track in front of them, because everything else is meaningless and of no importance in the race they are running. Should they glance off to the side and become enamored with an object on the sidelines, they would not only lose the race, but would possibly hurt themselves in the process of switching their focus from the race track, to the object.
The things on the sidelines of life are not important. They are nothing more than hindrances. My identity needs to rest solely in the promises of my Savior-
I am striving to get back to that place.
It isnt important what is being said about you. It isnt important who thinks you are the greatest thing since sliced bread or who thinks that you are the largest fake known to the blogging world (or the world in general). What matters is what is in your heart- who you are when no one is looking. That person you have to wake up and face in the mirror every day, that is the person Christ cares about. That is the person who knows your deepest secrets and your true motives. That is who you really are, the good the bad and the ugly.
Lately I have been asking myself what is truly important?
When your husband can stand next to you and tell you how much he adores you, that is what is important.
When your parents can look you in the eyes and tell you that they are proud of the person you have become, and are becoming, that is what is important.
When your children come to you and give you the greatest hugs in the world followed by a cheesy grin and a slobbery kiss, that is what is important.
When Christ looks at the inner most corner of your life, and see’s your complete devotion and dependence on Him, despite the mess you have made of yourself.
That is what is important.
Everything else is either meaningless gossip, or superficial flattery.
I needed to remind myself of that today- hopefully I helped someone out there remember it too.
I encourage you to print the following; Read it- Hang it up in your house- Trust it :
