Mending

I have to tell you, I feel so much better! I still tire easily, and and sleep alot, but I could get use to this “no radiation” feeling!

Many of you have asked if I am going to continue to homeschool, and the answer is “sort of”. We have found a school here in town who will teach the kids on Tuesday and Wednesday and allow me to teach them on Monday, Thursday and Fridays… I didn’t want to put the back in to school based on how I have felt this past 6 weeks, so this seems like a perfect solution to that problem!

I have been super busy (well, as busy as my body will allow me to be!) Friday night Mark took me out to dinner and a movie. We really really had a great time. I married an awesome awesome man.

Saturday I took Easton to see “Hairspray”. She thought that it would be like High School Musical, but it wasn’t. I wasn’t really fond of the “dance moves” in the movie, and we talked about that afterwards. It did have a good message! Easton and I had an amazing time, just the two of us!

I am sorry for not updating regularly. When I feel good enough to get out of the house, I take advantage of that! Today I met my high school friend Karly and her kids at her moms house and really had a great time. We talked about the good ole days, and how we have changed since then… It was really good to see her!

I am debating whether or not to continue chemo, so pray that the Lord would give me direction in that situation. I felt so very very bad on it, and they cant tell me if it is working or not. My oncologist said that this is what they treat Stage IV cancer patients with, so they assume that it will work on my type of cancer (Grade III) but he said that it was completely and totally up to me and many with my type of brain cancer choose not to be on it. That is a big decision, and I dont want to take it lightly. I have until August 16th to decide. I will also ask many questions regarding the pros and cons with my Oncologist at Moffit on the 16th.

So that is it! I’m on the way to mending, both physically and emotionally. Since April, my life has been a whirlwind of heartbreak and chaos. Now that I am done with cancer treatment I want to begin putting the pieces back together again and am enjoying my family and friends. I haven’t been out of my house much since cancer treatment started, so I am taking full advantage of feeling as good as I do!

  2. So glad to hear about your “Mother-Daughter” date…we saw Hairspray too!

Father, give Heather wisdom on which path to take with her treatment. Continue to restore her to even better health than before, and fill her with Your joy and peace. Thank You for the opportunities You’ve given her to share You and what You’ve done for her and her family. Allow her more days of energy and enjoyable times with friends and family.
    In Jesus’ name, amen.

Heather, I am so glad you are feeling better. I will definitely join with you in the decision regarding chemo. I honestly do not know what I would do on the either.

I have been worried about you. I hope you continue to feel better, and BRAVO on homeschooling still. I wish I had the endurance to do it. I tried it for a while, but God showed me real quickly that I am a much better “homeroom mom” than a “homeschool mom”
    Love ya!

It is so awesome to read that you are feeling better and embracing the moments you have now to get out and about! I will certainly pray for you in your decision regarding chemo. I can only imagine what a tremendous decision that must be and I will pray that our Great Physician will be very clear with you about the direction to take with that.

I can’t wait to read about your energy levels returning to normal and reading more about your recovery!

    Prayers and Hugs…

Hi Heather, You sound so good in your post today. I am praying the Lord
lets you know in black and white what choice to make on chemo. He knows your body best. Doesn’t it feel wonderful to venture back out into the great outdoors for more than doc. appts? Great date with Mark and girl time with Easton. Her heart must have been so full to have mom up and out with her. No apologies for not posting so much right now. You and your family deserve the first fruits of this wonderful summertime of your life. They have shared you with so many outsiders during this long and hard time. Rest with them and please remember to stay away from germs while your immune system needs much healing also. God bless you Heather Girl and enjoy your new freedom. You have definitely earned it and a new full, lush and gorgeous head of hair is on it’s way!!

So thrilled for you that you’re feeling better. I’ll pray for discernment and wisdom about your chemo treatment.

What a great option for homeschooling! When we lived in Florida, friends were just getting a school like that going and I’ve always wished there was something like that here in Indiana for me! Sounds wonderful for your family!

Praying for lots more healing and mending days ahead!

so happy to hear you are feeling better. I will pray that you receive the answer you need. It’s just so hard when NO ONE on the planet can answer your questions about your cancer, isn’t it? God knows – and thats where I’ll take my request. I’ll also pray that the doctors will receive wisdom regarding your specific request too!
It’s such a great feeling when treatment is over. It was/is also the hardest time for me… so I’ll PRAY hard that you don’t experience the same frumpy mood that I did!

    Heather,
So glad to hear you’re feeling better. I’ll be praying about your chemo decision. We have some dear friends who have just made the decision to take their 8 year old daughter off chemo (ellieskees.blogspot.com). They are going to be using homeopathic methods and have a homeopathic doctor working with them. The chemo was just too much for her little tiny body.
Praying for peace and joy for you and your family.

  17. Amy T says:

Praying for your way (and His Will) to be clear to you. So glad you and Easton had some “Momma-Girl” time (my son and I call our one on one time “Momma-Boy” time). And a date too! How cool! Enjoy this time with your family and kudos on the homeschooling decision. I’m so glad that opportunity for a part-time school exists for you.

    Hi Heather,
I am glad you are starting to feel better. I am also glad you are starting to enjoy life again. That is so important in your recovery. Each day is such a blessing, so do not let the cares of this life weigh you down. God already knows them before they happen and He has them all under His control. I will pray for widom in regarding continuing with your chemo. I know what a tough decision that is! Have you thought of looking into any natural alternatives? I know there is a book called ” Healing Cancer Gently” by Bill Henderson that might help. You should be able to find it online.
    Blessings,
    ~Gina

    Hi Heather,
A friend sent me your site, thinking that we seem to have alot in common. When I read your post today, I thought, “I get this girl. We have common hearts.” I, too, just decided to continue to homeschool 2 of my 4 boys, during a year that will continue to be filled with aggressive cancer treatments and appointments. I, too, have a wonderful husband. For years we served the Lord through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ. We both serve a mighty God who holds us in the palm of His Hand. I have my 6th round of chemo tomorrow. Radiation will start 4 weeks after that. I highly recommend the devotional “Streams in the Desert” if you don;t have it — the Lord has used it to minister to my soul in the dark of night and the dark of day. If you ever feel like chatting, you are welcome to contact me — I have a caringbridge site, but it is password protected. so I’d have to email you the connection.
May God continue to pour out His grace and mercy on you and your family. In Christ, Sheila

I will pray for the decision that you have to make. I’m sure deciding what to do is a difficult decision, and I’m sure that everyone has their opinion about what you should do. ((( hugs ))) Good for you for finding a temporary solution to the school decision — we homeschool also (one just graduated from gr. 12, one going into gr. 11 and one going into gr. 8 — they’ve never been in formal school) and I can understand how it would feel to possibly have to give it up. I’m excited for you, and for your family. I’m glad you are making the most of your “mending time”. As for whether or not to do chemo, I’ll pray God gives you just the wisdom and discernment you need.

When I lived in the States, I taught at very Christian/classical schools. The classical schools, especially, were willing to work with homeschool parents. I had several students come for just a subject or two, and it worked out great. It was a special privilege to partner with the parents who were their children’s primary teachers. I hope your experience will be just as great, and that your kiddos will be able to transition back and forth with ease.

    Blessings to you!

I have recently came across this blog, which I’m not sure if you’ve read, but it’s sahara aldridge, a 12 year old from missouri who was diagnosed with a brain tumor July 2006 and after chemo didn’t help, there was a certain, non-chemo treatment that a hospital in Texas had.

If this will help you at all……..visit her site:

Heather, I am so thrilled to hear you are resuming some of your “normal” activities when you feel like it. That has to be so encouraging and heart-boosting after all you’ve experienced these last weeks and months.

So glad, too, that you have a viable option available so you can still homeschool. I know how important it must be to be able to spend as much time as you can manage with your children.

Know you are in my prayers today, like always : ) Prayin’ especially for wisdom as you make that choice of chemo. or no chemo. I know our precious Father will lead you to His perfect choice for you and your family.

You sound most peaceful today, so I am thankful for that. Keep on . . .

I’ll be praying for wisdom for you and your husband as you make decisions about chemo. God bless you!!!
