Since Ya’ll asked :)

Here are some specific prayer requests for you:

Emma Grace has transplant clinic tomorrow in Gainesville. She stayed home from school yesterday and is home today for a cough and snotty nose, so pray that this isn’t the first sign of an nasty infection. I am curious to see what her labs are tomorrow.

I had an appointment last Thursday at Moffit because my next Cycle of Temador (chemotherapy) is coming up on the 20th. Please pray that I will handle it better than I did last time. I will be on it until the 25th. My oncologist prescribed more Kytril and luckily the pharmacy at Moffit dispenses samples for cancer patients. Once we dropped of the prescription at the pharmacy they informed us that they had an hour and half wait , so we are going back tomorrow on our way home from Emma’s appointment to pick them up.

My next appointment at Moffit will be on the 15th of October. I will have labs done (I had labs done last week, my oncologist was really pleased. My platelets were a bit low, but that is to be expected given how low they got the last time I was on chemo) and then an MRI. I cant describe the feeling going into an MRI, just pray that I handle it as well as I did the last one. Pray that I will sleep the night before, and that I will have peace. When my Oncologist told me that I will have an appointment with him for an MRI every two months, I was happy and yet sad at the same time. I miss my old reality so much, but I am so very thankful at the same time.

Mark is flying home today, he has been gone on a business trip since Monday. Please pray that he has a safe trip home, Elijah cried the first night that Mark wasn’t here… It broke my heart. My parents have been a tremendous help while he has been gone- I am so very thankful for them! I was a bit nervous but didn’t feel comfortable telling the whole internets that my husband would be out of town for the week :) I miss him (and I am exhausted).

We found Boomer a new home. I couldn’t keep up with the dog hair, especially when I was on chemo. We have tile floors throughout, except in the back bedrooms, so the dog hair was piling up on the tile. While I laid on the couch- I could see it, and that just made me feel icky. I didn’t want to exert the energy to clean the floors because as soon as they were clean, they were full of dog hair again. It was a vicious cycle. So, we gave him to a wonderful family who has an Autistic boy- she had been looking for a lab but hadn’t found one that was compatible with her son’s disabilities. Since we have an autistic daughter and Boomer had been raised with us, it seemed like a perfect match.

We asked the children before we made the decision, and they agreed that it was in the best interests of everyone. Boomer had no room to run, etc. There only requirement was they wanted to get a non shedding small dog… I was unaware there was such a thing (besides a hairless Chihuahua and that just wasn’t happening) , but apparently there is.

We ended up getting a Miniature Schnauzer and named him Maddox, Beau, Jonas, Bishop, Baxter Bailey, and lo and behold HE DOESN’T SHED! I was skeptical at first, but we are going on one week and there is no evidence of hair on my floors. (To give you a broader understanding of how much Boomer shed, we have gone through 3 vacuum cleaners in 2 years. 2 YEARS. Because the motors couldn’t handle that much dog hair.) He is black and 14 weeks old. He has not had one accident in my house He is adorable :)

Bailey

OH! I have peach fuzz! Oh yes I do! I had just asked Kate how long hers took to grow back. I was expecting it to come back thicker, but if I look in the mirror sideways, I see little bitty thin hairs! ;) (Doing the happy dance!)

Yeah for peach fuzz!!! And I totally understand about the lab. We had a black indoor lab as well and got rid of her shortly after we started having kids. I couldn’t keep up either and when your baby is learning to crawl and falls and comes up with a beard b/c dog hair has stuck to the drool…it’s kind of gross.
And yes, we went through vacuum after vacuum. Bailey is cute!

And yes, we’ll be praying for Emma Grace and also you as the kids bring home more germs this season!

  2. La says:

Praying for you Heather that you will sleep well and get a good report from your MRI. Also praying for Emma Grace that she too will get a good report. Bailey is absolutely precious! Congrats on your peach fuzz! I know you are so proud and I am proud for you! Thanks again for your words. You are an amazing woman! God bless you today and everyday!

  3. Michelle M. says:

    Heather,
Thanks for the update on Emma and your prayer requests. And your new dog is a.dor.able! And I couldn’t help but smile about your “peach fuzz”!
    Love and prayers,
    Michelle

  4. You all are definitely on the prayer list- good to know the doctor was pleased with your labs! And way to go with the peach fuzz! :)
Hee hee- what a cute doggie!

  5. Melanie says:

Woo Hoo for the Peach Fuzz! Happy Dancing with you!!!!
As always, will be praying for you and sweet Emma Grace! :)
Sorry to hear Boomer had to go to a new home but sounds like you found a great match for him. Hope the new pup works out well for your family. He is a cutie!
Hoping for a safe journey home for your hubby! I hate when mine goes away for work, I miss him terribly and I do not sleep well with him missing from the bed – my favorite pillow!! LOL
Lots of love and hugs your way!

  6. weavermom says:

Congrats on the peach fuzz!! How exciting!!

  7. Nancy says:

The new puppy is too cute! I did the same research after we lost our yellow lab 3 years ago….He was the most wonderful friend and loved everyone, but the hair! We probably could have made rugs and sold them with what he shed! He died from old age and I said no more dogs! However, the pull for one started in my heart so I started researching….my requirements were…..small enough to put in the car without pulling every muscle in my back and NO SHEDDING…..I got a precious black toy poodle…..no shedding and he housebroke in a week! No kidding….so I thought I was in doggie paradise. My fatherinlaw who has lung cancer loved him (Jack) so much that we decided to get another and housetrain for him. We got a silver toy, he is 10 months old, he is NOT housebroken and we have decided that his head and his butt are in no way connected! But he’s sweet and we fell in love with him, but he is NOT appropriate for an 80 year old with cancer….so we now have two dogs. I love yours, that was one I researched!

I’m praying for all of you and especially that you’ll be able to tolerate the meds this time!! And for Emma.

  8. Laurie says:

Happy Feet for you in California!! I wish I could put in words the picture going through my mind as I read your post just now. Let’s see, tons of dog hair falling out all over the floor causing daily distress, peach fuzz showing up causing the Happy Dance!! Life has it’s own sense of humor doesn’t it?
I was so glad to hear you had better labs and pray they keep getting better each day. Prayers for Emma will definitely be said here that everything is okay for her. Prayers for peace and wonderful sleep every day now so that it is a habit developed way before Oct. l5th. Prayers for your new reality to become comfortable for you, and it does with time, honestly. We quickly learn that the old one doesn’t exist anymore and discover with time, the new one can be pretty good or even better. Life is still great despite the potholes here and there. Speaking of potholes, I sit here typing, knowing I need to make my appt. for my yearly mammogram, my l3th since breast cancer. They have all come back perfect, but to this day, I am always nervous until the results are in. I don’t think that ever goes away, but is manageable because it is the only time of the year that it brings up the memory of cancer to me. And someday here in the near future, it will be this way for you too Heather. It will not be daily forever, I know that is hard to realize right now but you have survived the worst of it, now it is just chasing for any spare buggars that may be hiding out. I pray for all of your requests above and thank you for being specific with them and so open with your heart. Much strength, peace and sweet rest to you today. Laurel

  9. JoAnn says:

I will keep things in prayer. I’m so glad I stopped by, for two reasons. One, to say I somewhat understand about the MRI. My husband has been having occasional dizziness and after some tests the doctor said it didn’t look like an inner ear issue, it’s pointing to a central nervous system issue. :( So he has an MRI today, September 13th, to rule out a tumor or MS. I am quite nervous right now, and he is especially about the MRI, having never had one before. So I understand a bit about what you are going to face, and I pray it all goes well.
The second reason, is we’ve thought about getting an indoor dog, my daughter is allergic to cats, but I didn’t want tons of fur either. I will have to write the name of this type of dog down, and look into it a bit further. Do you know how big they get? Thank you so much for sharing these requests with us. And it’s a blessing to know that your husband will be home soon. :)
    JoAnn

  10. Astraea says:

Almost time to bust out with the hair gel! ;)

  11. Shalee says:

Praying for you, Heather, on all counts.

Bailey is an adorable addition to the family! And though I’m sure you all will miss Boomer, it sounds as if God, yet again, had everything in control.

And YAY for peach fuzz! I’ll bust a move or two just for you…

  12. campstamper03 says:

    Heather,

Had to LOL over the peach fuzz, I know exacty how you feel. My hair was dark and at first I thought my head was dirty and I couldn’t imagine that since I washed it every day. That is a big step!

Your prayer requests are noted and praying that this next round of chemo goes well, and Emma’s check up also.

    Hugs & Prayers.
    Norma

  13. Heather…You have so much going on! You are very much in my prayers and I love that puppy! He is adorable but I am sorry you had to find a home for your other dog. I know that is hard. We had to do that with BeauJo when we moved here. Doing the happy dance with you AND I have a surprise for you at my blog. Come on over and take a peek! Hugs!

  14. Dee Dee says:

Cute puppy! So sweet. I am glad you have him to enjoy.

We got a little dog about a month ago. Needed a non-shedder, too, and got a little silver toy poodle. The man said it was 2, he’d taken it in from an abused background, & it needed a new home b/c it didn’t do well with his dogs.
We drove about 3 hours to pick her up, paid $50. Cute, cute, shaggy, needed a cut. After we got her to the vet we found out she is NOT EVEN two. Maybe 4, or 6, or if you ask the groomer, 8.
Haha. Oh, well, we like her anyway! Call us gullible. But we named her Stormie (she was Prissy, but it just wasn’t our style, sorry), and she’s a sweetheart.

  15. Deb McVey says:

God Bless you girl, May He bless you REAL good. I’m sending you an eHug.

  16. Pat says:

My onc said a ballpark estimate to regrow hair was 7 weeks. She said this would, of course, depend on how fast your hair normally grew; this would also not be for “full, luxurious, locks” but having enough hair that you won’t have scalp showing through.

  17. Ashleigh says:

Hooray for peach fuzz! :D And double hooray for dog who don’t shed… whew… I’m still fighting that battle.

Writing down all your requests and will be taking them to the Throne of Grace for ya. HUGS

  18. Athena says:

    Heather-
So happy for you about the peach fuzz! Also will pray for your family today that your daughter’s appointment goes smoothly. Congrats on the new addition-Bailey is adorable! Another similarity between you and I-we have 2 mini schnauzers! We always had labs, and when one of my kids was too allergic we investigated and decided to try a schnauzer. That was 8 years ago-we started with a black/silver puppy, and a few years later found a rescue salt/pepper at a shelter. They have been the BEST dogs-the only time I have ever seen them shed is when they get REALLy nervous, like one of mine does at the vets. The only prob. I’ve had with them is their yappiness, which can be dealt with, and more skin bumps/growths as they age, which are harmless. Enjoy her!!

    Praying friend!
    Love,

  20. Sally says:

Bailey is SO adorable…I’m a devoted Mini Schnauzer LOVER!! Those are the only dogs I’ve EVER owned, and I can completely attest to the fact that they DO NOT SHED…EVER!!

I had my first mini schnauzer growing up (Schroeder), and then after college I got my own (Linus). Unfortunately, we lost Linus when he was hit by a car about a year after we got married. And now we have a brother and sister who we named Lucy and Rerun (are you catching the all Peanuts comic strip theme??). They are great dogs — lovable, loyal, great with kids, and no shedding. Have fun!

Here’s a link to one of my posts where there’s a pic of Rerun:

I’ll be praying for you and for Emma Grace!

  21. Marie says:

    Hi Heather,

    Will be praying for you.

    Marie

  22. Gina says:

    Heather,
I will be praying for your little Emma’s appointment tomorrow. I am so thankful your labs were good!
I will be praying about your MRI. Yes, I do know the feelings you have before each one. My next scan is October 17th! I go every three months, but after this one (if it is good) I can go every six months! I have mixed emotionals about that as well…Happy that I do not have to go as often. Nervous about going that long without one!
Your puppy is darling!! I am so happy he is fitting in with your family.
The hair does come in thin at first, but before you know it, it will be thick and curly! My curls lasted about 9 months!
    Blessings,
    Gina

  23. Danielle says:

Bailey is too cute! I love dogs and have a black lab myself – I know how much they can shed and can’t imagine having to keep up with that, having kids, and going through cancer! I don’t even have kids and he’s enough work all by himself. I’m sure it was hard to give him up, but the new addition to your family is adorable!!

  24. The dog is ADORABLE and I bet the peach fuzz is, too! :-)

  25. Congrats on the hairs. And the adorable puppy! And on no more dog hair!

  26. Stephanie says:

    Dear Heather,
I have been praying for you, and will, of course, continue to do so.
Regarding keeping the floors clean in general, have you looked into the Roomba and the Scooba? The Roomba is a vacuum cleaner, the Scooba is a mop, only they work by themselves. If you get the fancier ones, you can even schedule their cleaning, and you can get ones that head back to the charger automatically when their batteries are getting low. I don’t have one, but I want one.
Why? Well, first of all, I hate vacuuming. But also, some friends of mine have them, and they have cats. I’m allergic to cats. I react to cats in varying degrees, but I never have an allergic reaction while at their house, and that never happens when someone has indoor cats. My friend says you still have to get the corners of the rooms, but other than that, they’re amazing.
Of course, this is a little late to help on the dog hair…but maybe it would make life easier in general.
And definitely, congratulations on the peach fuzz!
    Stephanie

  27. Terry says:

    Ha!!
Heather, I just had to swipe this doggie for a few minutes and fly the little darling over to see the Pilgrim Pals!!
Don’t worry… Maddox, Beau. Jonas,Bishop, Baxter—Bailey is all safe and sound again snoozing at home!
He is exhasted from the the hard time that he had getting over the Canadian border…no passport!

Will be praying for Mark’s safety on his travels…..Love Terry

  28. Thank you for giving specifics to pray for.

    Praying!

    Blessings and hugs,

  29. Carolynn from Western Australia. says:

Yes, I have tiles and the 12 months old pup, Tanzie (had her from 7 weeks) is a black and tan Border Collie and Kelpie Cross and has the long hair of a Collie so we too get “Dust Bunnies”. About a week and half ago when my hair was falling our BIG time it was hard to tell whose hair was making the biggest “Dust Bunnies” of course now I don’t have a hair on my head we KNOW who the culprit is. Trixie however is a short hair English Staffy cross Kelpie and she sheds a little.

Well done on “The Peach Fuzz”, I’m a little unsure whether or not mine will grow back anytime soon seeing as I am on the Chemo permanantly. Mind you with it now shaved it looks SOOO much better than the “Mange” that was there. I think I was a bit more self conscious with it with sparce bits of hair all over the place. For some it is a “Fashion Statement” :)

Love your new pup, these little guys are often recomended for people with allergies bevause they don’t shed. You can always keep him clipped neatly too.

    Take Care
    Love Carolynn xxx :)

  30. Lyric says:

    Will be praying for Emma…

Just love the new doggie and “peach fuzz”… LOL

Prayers continue regarding your upcoming treatments.

  31. Shirley says:

Yea for peach fuzz and new shed free doggie and Hubby coming home. Prayers will be with you and Emma Grace on checkups for both of you. I will have you in my prayers for added strength and happy thought on the 15th and a good nights sleep before , we aare always here for you to ask of us Heather. God Bless you and your wonderful family.

  32. Heather says:

I don’t know if you’re still doing that question thing, but here I go anyway: How do you know that God exists? I know it says so in the Bible, but how do you know that the Bible is real?

I was raised without religion so I’ve always been lost in this area. Is there a God? Why does it feel like no one ever hears me when I pray? What religion is right for me, etc. This issue has been more in the front of my mind since my lung cancer diagnosis. Not because I feel like I’m going to die, but because now I realize that I need to know. I deserve to know. I ask God over and over again to reveal himself to me and he never does. What am I doing wrong?

  33. peepnroosmom says:

    Peach fuzz! Yay!
Maltee-poo’s don’t shed, either. Apparently they have hair and not fur.

  34. Linds says:

Bailey! Our border collie was called Bailey, and was the wonderful! Great the peach fuzz is appearing!

  35. Christy says:

Love the peach fuzz. I remember that moment so vividly even though it was in 1990. Mine grew like baby hair. I think the funniest moment that I had was when I realized that I wouldn’t look like Kojak. I just had this image of my bald head shining. I just love your blog. YOU GO GIRL!!!
    Christy

  36. Prayers for you always, Heather! And thanks for the specifics – I will make my prayers extra long and detailed tonight. Lots of hugs. God bless. +

  37. You guys are always in our prayers!

  38. Kate says:

Way doin’ the HAPPY DANCE with you!

What did I tell you? Yippppppppeeeeeeeeee!

Hair – hair – hair. Keep it comin’

Praising God for hair. It’s not a little thing. Thankful for peach fuzz. Keep it comin’.

Sorry I got carried away! Heather I just want you to know I will be praying for your next MRI. It is on my birthday. October 15! So glad I am having another birthday. It will be a year on October 19 when I first felt the intense headaches of the brain tumor.

I also understand in telling the whole blog world about not having your hubby around. I keep my out of town information silent until we /he returns. I accidentally mentioned my husband was at a meeting once and I was putting the boys to bed. That was a no no in my husbands book. So glad he is looking out for me. He is so my prince.

Check out my blog tomorrow to see if I have a clear report from my Tuesday MRI. Glad that I have been having a peace that passes all understanding.

Way loving that you have hair! – kate

  39. Dawn says:

YAY for peach fuzz! Cute new doggie – our dachschund didn’t shed, in case you ever need to know that!

I am so glad you are answering questions, and you have a great one today. God bless you as you answer her heartfelt questions about faith.

  40. Michele says:

What an adorable dog! Congrats on the peach fuzz! I will continue my prayers for you.

  41. gracie says:

This gave me a smile… you want to grow hair, and you want a dog that doesn’t lose it either!!

  42. Ivy says:

HI, Not sure if anyone will read this in the comment section but…I don’t have a blog of my own… this is a plea for prayer for a close family friend/neighbour. Her name is Natania, she is 18 and was diagnosed yesterday with thyroid cancer and was immediately taken for surgery today(Sept 14)… if anyone reads this please pray!!!!
I’ve just been visiting your blog for a few weeks Heather and only commented a couple times?? Praying for you, Ivy

  43. peach says:

Bailey is so sweet. So glad you found Boomer a new home with a great family. We had to do that with our lab, Jazzie, two years ago, and I know how I felt to know she was going to a better place for her with lots of room to run.

HOORAY for “peach” fuzz. You know I’d be especially excited about that : )

  44. Kandy says:

You are such an inspiration. I “got back to God” during my own battle with liver cancer last year, but I still struggle daily with my faith. I envy you yours, but I think you’re just the most amazingly strong Christian woman I’ve ever “met”. My prayers for you daily…thanks for the specifics to know what to pray for. Yay for the peach fuzz!

  45. Kay says:

    I am praying……

  46. Cat says:

Prayers being said as always sis!

Yippee on the peach fuzz, Matt is growing hair now too! Woohoo!

and wow, Bailey is a cutie! (love the new name by the way, although I did like Maddox! LOL)

Love you sis! call me when you are feeling up to talking okay?

  47. Amy T says:

Yay on the peach fuzz! :)

My aunt had a Schnauzer that was her baby. And you are right they don’t shed. Sorry you had to give your lab away, but sounds like you made a loving decision that worked out best for all. Bailey is adorable!

Praying for the appointments for both you and Emma Grace.

  48. Gretchen says:

I’m glad everything worked out with Boomer and the new pup. I hope Emma’s transplant clinic goes well. Feel better, soon, Emma! Peach fuzz is fantastic. One woman I see at the groc store has peach fuzz and just wears it with pride. It’s clear she’s a cancer survivor, and I once commented to her that I thought she looked great. She was very sweet, and said that it wasn’t by choice, but that she tries to wear fun earrings and just have as good an attitude as she can.

  49. kelli says:

YEAH on the peachfuzz, and nice to put a face with Bailey’s name now :) Hows Emma doing? I’m abi late on the prayer, but praying none the less .

  50. Beverly says:

LOVE the puppy and the puppy’s name!

    And YEAH for peach fuzz!!
