Now, for a favor…

October 9, 2007

I recieved this comment and wanted to share it with you:

Now for a favor, if I may be so bold. My friend, Kim, is a full-time law student raising a teenager and battling breast cancer. She’s been nominated for a $10,000 scholarship for blogging on her battle with cancer while in law school. I was hoping you might consider a post asking others to vote for her. She’s up against 19 other blogs, mostly full-time undergrad students. Obviously, as you know from the money many of us pitched in to help you early on, the money from this scholarship would be a huge help to Kim and her family.

Her blog is at: Law Mom
the voting link is at: Vote For the Winner of the 2007 Blogging Scholarship

I would like to encourage each and every one of you to vote for this mom. I can’t begin to tell you what a burden cancer can be when you have children, but like the above comment says, I can attest to the money you guys pitched in being a huge blessing to me and my family, including my children.

This is my small way of paying it forward, and I need your help in doing so.

Those things, which you have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, Do.
And the peace of God will be with you.
-Philippians 4:9

Hi Heather, I just got back from casting my vote. You are so mindful of others to post this here. If everyone who comes here casts their vote, we stand a good chance of pushing her over the top in competition. I hope everyone will. Be well and blessed this week as you homeschool. Asking the Lord to shine his healing touch all over your body and heart this day.

Love you, Laurie in Ca.

I just got back from voting. Thank you for letting us know about it, dear Heather.

Praying for you this week as you are at home with all your sweeties. I know how tiring homeschooling can be for me, so I know it must take lots of energy from you as well.

Heather,

Will definitely cast my vote for Kimberly! BTW…I know you probably received a ton of emails each day, but I was wondering if you had received my email regarding my “Why I Walk” t-shirt? My shirt will be made this coming Saturday and I would love to include your name.
If you did not get my email, let me know and I will resend it!

Blessings,
Gloria

I wasn’t aware of this contest till I read your entry this morning; I did go to the website and vote, but afterward I must confess that I felt some guilt as I saw Kim’s 1710 votes as compared to 20 votes for some of the others. The instructions for voting say to check out all the blogs; I’m sure most of us didn’t. I wonder if it was really fair of us to all go and vote for Kim’s blog just because we feel bad about her cancer and her bills. I’m sure there were other students in that group who may well need that money in order to continue school, and I feel like we’ve all gone in and stacked the deck against them. The contest wasn’t about fighting obstacles or non-education-related financial needs, it was just supposed to be about voting for a blog on its own merit.

I was happy to vote. What a nice thing for you to do! I sure hope Kim wins!

I’m still keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs!

Dear Heather,
do you know that your first name and my last means the same (Ljung= heather in Swedish) We are almost what we in Norway call name-sisters.
You are so warm, bravely fighting and reflected. It makes me blush when I’m complaining over a root canal, hearing what faces and challenges you are up against.
I admire you flat.
My nearest relation to cancer is my brother, who was diagnosed with cancer pancreas four years and three month ago. For him there were no options of radiation or chemo. He had to undertake a Whipple-surgery, remove much of his digestal system, and was given 20% chance to survive.
(Without op. the percentage was down to 2.
We, his family, are also waiting for those five years to go.
My brother will not talk much about it, but of course his life is kind of being put on a hold.
You on the other hand are seizing the days you have, and when the treatment is slapping you down, you’re loosing something so that you can continue to stay alive.
On the other hand I might cross the street tomorrow and get run over by a car.
We don’tt know when and how death comes, but we will fight to stay alive, taking care of our most precious as long as we can.
May the Lord fill you with His hope and strength.
Felisol

Heather,
I have a prayer request for you. At church today it was announced that a young mom (she is 30 her baby is one year old) was told she has a very aggressive form of breast cancer. At the same time they told her she is pregnant and needs to abort the baby. PLEASE pray for Monica and the baby. Her parents just flew out today to be with her and her family. I know you know this scene all to well. I will be encouraging her friends to come by here.

Because of Jesus, Bobbie

Father,

You alone know all things. You control all things and by your word and power all things are. Oh God you are so good even when things are so desperately bad, you are still so good.

Please give Heather peace and wisdom on the things she wrote about. Thank you for letting her find other people who have lived well beyond the time alotted them by the doctors. The doctors can only guess Jesus, yet you never guess. You know when we rise, when we sit, how long we will live for you know all things.

Please help Heather to continually trust in you in this time of need and if it be your will, please heal her. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

When my wife was 18 weeks pregnant with my son Tobias (His name means “God is good”) her water broke and we went to the doctor and they told us there was nothing they could do. They told us to go home and wait for the baby to die.

I looked the doctor in the eye and said, just because you wear a white coat does not mean that you are God. God will determine when my baby dies; not you!

The reality was that he only had a 2-1/2% chance of survial and yet he will be turning 5 in May. It has not been an easy road, but he is with us and healthy and we rejoice in the goodness of God for granting us mercy.

My heart is with you during this difficult season in your life. Is there anything that I can pray for more specifically?
Please email me at: scott77411@yahoo.com.
