Ohh Ohh We’re Half Way There…

Ohh ohh we’re living on a prayer! That seems to be the motto of my life.

Ultimate Blog Party 2008

Before I start this post, let me welcome you to my blog party and also tell you a little about myself and my family. My name is Heather George, and I am a vibrant semi young mother of three. Easton is 11, Elijah is 7, and Emma Grace is 6. I am married to Mark, the most amazing man on the planet in my opinion.

I semi-homeschool Easton and Elijah (with the help of a local school), and I wouldn’t trade that for the world. I plan on homeschooling full time next year, with the help of an umbrella school.

This week marks the halfway point of my chemo (you can clap!) and I want to celebrate it with you! If you are new to my blog, I have brain cancer. I had a malignant tumor (anaplastic astrocytoma) removed last May and underwent chemo and radiation simultaneously for 6 weeks and had a month off, then started my full year of chemo. I am on a 5 day on, 23 day off cycle and I am six months in (or out!) of that treatment!

Like I said, You can clap!

The surgeon that preformed my crainiotomy gave me a prognosis 3-5 years to live. God says in His word that only He knows the number of my days. Only He knows the number of hairs (or lack there of ) on my head. Only he knows what the future holds for my life, and I am trusting the great physician…

God has been so very very good to my family. If you have read my blog, you will know that I am a firm believer, I make no excuses about my faith, and I hold nothing back when it comes to where my trust lies. I often say that my cancer did not take my God by surprise, and either way this ends well for me! That doesn’t mean that I don’t (often) have stern talks with God, and ask “why” over and over (and over and over) again. Trust me, I do, but I figure He has broad enough shoulders to handle it! I also live life to the fullest, I embrace each day for the gift that it is, and I cherish every.single.moment I have with my family.

Take a moment and look around my blog. Click on the many things I have in my sidebar (Yes, I know I have a ton!) but before you leave, if you dont read anything else, please read “The Name” and “The Cancer” and “Emma Grace” up top in the left sidebar. I promise you that you will not leave here empty and you will not leave here hopeless.

More than anything, I want you to leave here with hope… hope that you can face any circumstance with Christ by your side. And when you are not strong enough to walk, He will carry you, like he has done me and my family through the many trials of our lives.

ooooh I haven’t been by here in so very long! I’m so happy to hear things are going well for you. You are so very inspiring. And your daughter (black shirt, no bangs) has your eyes! I probably wouldn’t have seen that if I hadn’t seen your updated photo (I believe the last one I saw was on a button in a sidebar with hair). She’s beautiful… well, you all are, but the eyes… the eyes… windows to the soul and all.

I accidentally dropped in on a PARTY day and didn’t even know it!? LOL.

  39. SJ says:

Found your blog through a friend that thought your experience would help me. I was diagnosed with anaplastic oligo astrocytoma 27 Feb 2007. Like you I had a craniotomy followed by 7 weeks of weekday radiation at the same time as 7 day a week chemo, followed by another 6 cycles of chemo ( 5 days on – 23 days off) which finished Dec 2007. Unlike I didn’t have the full deletion on the genetic testing so unfortunately needed another craniotomy 2 weeks ago. I will pray and send positive thoughts that you continue on strongly. Look forward to checking in regularly to hear your progress.

  41. Laura says:

Thank you so much for your insightful, encouraging and beautiful thoughts. Praying for you and yours!

  42. Wendy says:

Whew! Heavy reading! This is my first visit and I read through your recommended reading posts. I’m glad that everyone is well and you have learned to cherish every moment together. I think that is a hard lesson to learn. A year and a half ago my husband was diagnosed with leukemia, and I’d like to think that it gave us a new perspective on life, but we still find ourselves falling into the same patterns of discontent and being unappreciative. I guess you just have to take everyday and every moment one at a time.
I’m glad you are doing so well, and I hope your entire family will be able to enjoy health and happiness for a long time to come.

  43. Chanin says:

Hi, Heather! Nice to meet you and your family!

  44. Heather – Boy my Lord is strong at work today. Out of the long list of peoples parties I closed my eyes and selected one to join first. The Lord sent me to you. You are a blessing not only to your children and your husband, but to all the moms who may happen to check out this blog. You are such an inspiration and I will be back to check your blog regularly. Oh….and I am glad that one of our products made your top five list. Whether you win or lose we will be in touch ;) May God continue to bless you and pour out a blessing you don’t have room enough to receive. Look to the heavens from where all the blessing flow.

  45. Nise' says:

CLAPPING….I believe I got to “know” you from last year’s UBP and have been praying for you and your family since your initial diagnosis. Thank you for sharing your journey with such eloquence, grace and faith.

  46. I AM CLAPPING FOR YOU…1/2 WAY THERE!!!   *elizabeth

  47. Kristin says:

What a powerful witness you are for the Father. It is amazing the strength and mercy he pours out on us so lavishly. My dad died almost two years ago, five months after receiving a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Those 5 months, and the two years since, I have learned more about myself, and my dad, and my Father, than I could have imagined. I am leaving your blog with the hope that you promised. I’ll be back often.

  48. Bobbie says:

Oh Heather everyday with you is a party! Celebrate Jesus, Celebrate!

    Because of Jesus, Bobbie

  49. Laurie says:

Thinking of and praying for you. All the best to you and your family. I hope you’ll drop by my party and enter my contest.
