Updates and Prayer Requests..
April 23, 2008
Today, I am heading to Tampa General (Moffit Cancer Center) with my mom. I had my labs done locally yesterday so hopefully they have them by now, and I have my MRI in one month. I’m having alot of headaches. I am sure it is just the weather and allergies, but I am going to mention that any way. I start my next round of chemo on Monday night, if my labs permit. I have 4 more rounds to go (including this month) so I will be done in August.
You would think that the end of treatment would be an exciting time in a cancer survivors life, because we have such a love/hate relationship with chemo. You’d be surprised how many cancer survivors are terrified of going off of treatment, including me. I look forward to August, yet dread it at the same time. I wonder what will happen in my head when I don’t have chemotherapy fighting to defend my brain. But then I remind myself that I am not there yet, but Christ is already. Easier said than done, believe me.
I am nervous about Homeschooling full time next year, so soon after treatment. I will have Mrs. M (the kids teacher) writing out lesson plans and daily work planning, so that will help emensely, but I am still leary of how my body and brain will work so close after completely chemo. They say it takes about 1-2 years for chemo to leave your body… thus chemo brain lasting for 1-2 years after therapy ends. So please pray for my peace of mind and my self confidence. I really believe this is what God is telling me to do. On a brighter note, the kids finished their Science Fair Project last week, and we are waiting to hear what they made on it. They researched how salt effects the boiling temperature of water.

Onto Miss Emma. She was student of the month this month at her school! There is a little ceremony with coffee and donuts at the school tomorrow morning, so her father and I (nana and papa too!) will be going to see her get her award :) I have to tell you that she has improved so so much this past year. She has been putting whole sentences together, and asking “who, what, where, why” questions alot more. When we pray at night, she goes down her entire list of class mates and says “Jose is in his bed, Mrs Laura is in her bed, etc”. It’s the cutest thing!

She was suppose to have her annual Transplant visit tomorrow, but she would have had to miss the ceremony, so we moved it to two weeks (I am on chemo next week). Health wise, she seems to be doing so great.
I have to go get dressed for my appointment now, but I just wanted to thank each and every one of you for your prayers and support. I can’t imagine what this past year would have been like without you guys rallying me on…. It really has meant so much to me.

Heather,
I look forward to your updates. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I don’t comment often but you are a source of inspiration to me. I admire your strength and perseverance. Your family is precious and I know God honors what you are doing with them and what you are doing with your life. I just love reading about how He is working in your lives. Just take one day at a time, one step at a time.

Always praying for you! I think it is awesome that you are homeschooling next year, and I am confident that you will do great.
Have you ever maybe considered the Abkea DVD program? It may help a bit. We are actually trying it this year. :) Anyways, just a thought.
It is very cool to have a teacher helping you with the lesson plans though, that will be such a huge burden lifted. ;)
Hi Heather,
I can totally relate to the fear of being off of chemo. Just take it one day at a time and as you said, God is already there!!
As far as the home-schooling. I have home-schooled for years. I finished my chemo in mid September, so we started school a bit late that year. Give yourself permission to go a bit more slowly if you need to. God will give you and your children what they need. I am sure you will do a great job! I would say I was pretty much back to normal after a month or so as far as the chemo brain. I know you have a different chemo than I had, so it may be different, but in the meantime, I am praying that you do not have long lasting effects.
Congratualtions to your littlle Emma on a job well done!
Have a wonderful day!
Bless your sweet heart, Heather. I am praying that your appointment goes well. Also that God will give you peace of mind, supernatural wisdom and strength to endure. You little Emma is so precious and sweet.

Heather,
Jesus said, This peace I leave with you!!! Don’t look tomorrow , look to today, HE is with you, HE is beside you, in front of you and carrying you……he is your strength. He will not call you to do something he has not already planned for you. Jeremiah 29:11 I love you and I am praying for you. Believing for a GOOD report and thanking HIM for it!!!

Heather,
Our prayers are with you for a great week and positive results for you, and Emma. God will give you the brain to teach in the upcoming year.
I am getting married in Florida and so wish I could stop by and share a latte with ya!
Hugs girl
How exciting about Emma’s award! Congrats Emma, well done!
I hope the appointment today went well and am glad to hear that August is the final month of chemo. I think once it is here and the drugs are done, you won’t be nervous about stopping them at all. I know, easy words, but I think you will find them true!
I am also excited that you are going ahead with your homeschooling plans! I love homeschooling mine, even though it often has it’s challenges! You will love it, the kids will love it, and they will thrive. :)

Congrats to Emma for Student of the Month! YAY!
Heather, I haven’t read all the comments but did you happen to see World News Tonight a couple days ago? It was about brain cancer and a new experimental vaccine. It was interesting and I thought about you. Sorry, I only caught the tail end of the story, as I was making dinner but it sure caught my attention. I will search around and see if I can find the info and email you the link.
I always think of you during our intercessory prayers on Sunday, when they say, “especially for whom we now pray”, I think “especially Heather”. I bet you are so looking forward to August! Prayers for you for your upcoming appointment.
Oh, here it is!

Heather, I hope that you have a positive visit yesterday and that you just have not had any time to update up. I am praying for you as I have for the past year or so and won’t stop.
