“If anyone desires to come after Me,
let him deny himself,
and take up his cross daily,
and follow me”
-Matthew 10:32
Many people come to Christianity thinking it is going to make their circumstances better… it is going to solve all of their earthly problems, that Jesus will tie them up in a great big polka dotted bow.
Absolutely Not True.
Jesus made it clear that it would be hard. He made it clear in Matthew 10:32 that if you come to Him, you would have to deny yourself, which in and of itself is a hard task. You would have to take up your cross DAILY… not just when you feel like it…and you would have to follow Him.
Even if that means harm to your family. Even if that means defending your faith to your friends. Even if that means not watering down the scriptures to fit your “Ideal Jesus”.
Now there is a case to be made that some Christians today are way too legalistic. That they are all about rules and opinions. That they lack grace and mercy, which are the forefront of the message of Christ.
I agree that Christians today are very legalistic and lack Grace, and Mercy but there is a generation of Christians that are so opposed to the legalistic Christianity that they disregard black/white truth. Legalism has no place in scripture or in church, but sound biblical doctrine absolutely does. We surely do not need watered down Christianity, which is spreading like wild fire in the North American Church. North American church is all about “Warm and Fuzzy Jesus” yet there is more to Him than that.
Biblical truth infused with the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to have grace and mercy, yet we have to be careful not to abandon the absolute infallible Word of God.
When we do that, it allows for the breaking down of our biblical values.
Now here is where I get blunt.
I am so sick and tired of people “creating Jesus” to fit their needs. I am so sick and tired of people claiming to be “for everything” while standing for nothing. I am so sick and tired of people watering down the Black and White truth of Gods word. I am so sick and tired of people portraying my Savior as some “anything goes, do as you want, I understand” type of God.
It slaps Him in the face, every single time.
“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.” - Matt. 10:38
The answer to all of your problems is in the book that He authored..
Jesus Christ isn’t a personal genie—He is Savior. He is so much more than a “warm and fuzzy” Savior. He died an agonizing death to satisfy the wrath of a holy God.
Stop trying to fit Jesus into what you think He should stand for, and open your bible and read about what He does stand for.
