Even before there was a drop in the ocean.
Even before there was a star in the sky.
Even before the world was put in motion.
You were on Your throne. You were on Your throne.
You reign.
Gory in the highest.
You reign.
Let creation testify by Your name.
Every knee will bow and every tongue proclaim that Jesus reigns.Even before Your hand made the heavens.
Even before the breath of all mankind.
Even before we had to be forgiven.
You were on Your throneYou were on Your throne.
Yesterday, today and forever.
Your are God who was,
and is and is to come.
I am so proud that I live in a country that has come so far in electing an African American president. Although I didn’t vote for him, I will pray for him and his leadership of this country. I urge every Christian to do the same. Barack Obama’s election did not take God by surprise, and hopefully we can come together and agree that God is still sovereign and holy.
And most of all… He still reigns

Very well said. I also did not vote for him and honestly I was upset this morning when I found out he won. Be it is now time to put it behind us and start praying for wisdom and safety for him. Your right….God knew what was going to happen. He is not caught off guard. Thanks for putting it all in perspective.

I did vote for President-elect Obama and was elated last night at 11 when he was declared the winner. I saw his acceptance speech as well as McCain’s speech-which was very gracious. I hope our country can put politics behind us and support our president and continue to pray that God will guide his decisions.
I can’t remember what movie this is from, but this is how I feel:
“Fasten your seatbelts…it’s going to be a bumpy ride!”
I hardly slept last night, despite praying and praying after hearing the news. God is on His throne, and I shouldn’t worry, but when we elect such a man to rule our country, I just can’t see the up side.
You are right, Heather; it is time to pull together. I’m praying for that to happen.
Well said, Heather! I heard that song in the car today and had myself a little praise and worship time. He Reigns!

I am filled with despair. I am not American, but what affects you, affects us. My only comment other than to restate the sovereignty of God, is that people should be careful what they ask for, because God in His love sometimes gives it to you. Romans chapter 1 is a case in point.
Thanks for the encouragement and reassuring words, as always. You’re right. This was no surprise to God. While I think that right-to-life and values issues are a much higher priority than the economy, energy, health care, etc., and I certainly had to vote that way, there is some hope that this president who was chosen by others who saw need for a different kind of change will be able to do some good things for our country. He certainly is an eloquent and convincing speaker.
I also think that it will be very important for those of us who care about the values issues to speak out to our senators and representatives in Congress. I really don’t believe that most Americans really want “abortion-on-demand with no restrictions” to be the law of the land. Even Bill Clinton always said it should be “legal, safe, and RARE.” I think a woman’s “right to choose” is a couple of decisions and a few weeks prior to the decision to have an abortion. Conceiving a child is a serious matter; destroying one is a heinous offense against God and nature. We need to let our voices be heard on other issues as well. Possibly a politician who would vote “present” so many times in order to avoid taking a stand, would have some concern about the wishes of those who voted for his opponent.
Pop culture has trivialized sex, marriage, family, religion, and abortion. It has also had a lot of other detrimental effects on the fabric of our society. Every minute that kids (or adults) are playing video games or watching TV, is time that they are not reading, running, creating, interacting with real people in real time. I have so much admiration for parents who are really trying to raise their children to have good values. I think we must pray for Obama and for the people of America. God bless.

I’m always so amazed and so humbled at your responses to things in this world and things in your life. You are always so gracious, so giving, and so full of prayer even when things do not turn out the way you hope. You’re an inspiration to me and I really hope that I can be as gracious. You truly humble me, Heather, and I am so thankful that I can read your words.
I am so proud that we have come this far to elect an African American president, and I am happy that we can all get together and pray for this country and our new president.
I didn’t vote for him either. I have a funny spiritual feeling about him being elected. I am praying for him…God still reigns..this was no surprise to our Father in heaven..and YES, HE is in control.
We all need to pray for all of our government leaders. We need to remember that God is still on the throne. This did not surprise Him in the least! We also should trust God…”Greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world”…or the White House!!
Amen!

This Democrat thanks you for your gracious words. I was VERY proud to be an American last night, not only because Barack Obama won an historic election, but also because of Senator McCain’s graciousness that he displayed by the concession speech he gave after all the numbers had been crunched and so forth.
John McCain is a good and honorable man. I hope that he and President-Elect Obama can find a way to put aside their differences and work TOGETHER for the betterment of America.
We may be on opposite sides of the political spectrum, Heather, but I have always found your blog to be insightful and inspiring. You’ve garnered the support of many, many people during your battle against cancer, Heather, and regardless of who falls where on whatever issue, I think it is safe to say that the people who read your blog, including myself, pray for your continued good health every day.
God’s peace…

Perhaps it’s just the circle of my existence .. but I have mostly heard the same kind of words expressed. I haven’t seen the bitter nasty crazies that have dogged the soon to be previous administration. (Even by the media.)

While the election in general disgusted me, I have been praying fervently for our president-elect. That he won didn’t catch many Americans by surprise so surely it didn’t catch God by surprise. I pray that God would stir his heart to salvation and give him wisdom to lead this country in the way that it should go and not in the way it’ll likely go. We are in much need of prayer but God is absolutely still in control – HE is my King and no president can take His place on the throne of my heart.
Might I add HUGE PROPS to CA, AZ and FL for banning gay marriage!!!! It does my heart good to see states that will stand for the truth of God’s Word when former conservative states (like my home state of NH) have gone blue. Good for you CA!

Heather, seem my above comments have angered a homosexual reader of yours. I hope you’ll give me an opportunity to say to this person who very rudely commented on my blog anonymously (like a coward), that I welcome comments, even if they are not in agreement with my own views. However, I will not tolerate hate filled comments directly targeted towards my family. If you can present yourself in an adult manner, with something objective to talk about, I’ll leave your comments whether I agree or not. But ones like the one you just left will be swiftly deleted.
I apologize for using your comments forum Heather but it is the only way I know to get the message to ‘anonymous’. Thank you!

I heard a great comment on a local Christian radio station (towards all those who were being ugly and freaking out). We may have a new president, but our King is still the same.

So a cool little piece of info… One of my best friends told me that when she went to camp as a teen… Mercy me was the praise and worship band. They were at that camp. Cool huh? And Casting Crowns the P&W band at the camp we go to.
And the election… I didn’t vote for Obama. I think one of my issues with him is that he is not a Christian. That being said, I think you can do what is right for a Country, regardless. I pray for him. I pray that he is able to bring a Country and a World together that is going in so many different ways.
God knew what was going to happen with this election, and I know he has his hand on all of this. I just wish we could understand it a little better.
Above Obama or McCain, He does reign.
God is good, we as humans are weak and easily misled. I look forward, not to what Big Government can do for me, but back to the cross on calvary, where Jesus did for me all that needed doing and gave me all that I needed, for now and eternity.
I too will pray for wisdom for all our leaders
david, in Big Bear Lakes last blog post..another day
this is for Christy. Actually Obama is a born again Christian and was baptized in the 90s see this:http://www.newsweek.com/id/145971
McCain admits he is not born again and has never been baptized-but goes with the Christian faith. McCain was also unfaithful and divorced his wife. If this is what you based your vote on, I’m afraid you’ve been misinformed. It’s still everyone’s choice, but unfortunately, I think the reasons are often based on rumor more than fact. Either way, I think the idea of prayer for our new president is awesome, and John McCain was very gracious in his speech-that’s the most I’ve ever liked him.
Heather,
Thank you for reminding all of us what is important at this point in history, to stand together as Christians and PRAY regardless of our personal feelings. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!!!!!!
This is wonderful! Thank you for reminding of what is truely important through this election!

Your blog is always inspiring to me although we have very different political views. But that’s what makes America great, we can agree, or not, as the case may be and still be respectful. I did vote for Obama because I liked what he had to say. I felt happy to hear he had been elected and I hope the people here who are not informed of what he is about can find peace. Barack is indeed a Christian and a fine family man. At least he ran a clean campaign………..
More than praying for the president, please pray for all the unborn children who will be slaughtered when this man removes the limitations and bans on all types of abortion in this country. God have mercy on us for allowing these innocents to be murdered and voting for someone to lead us who believes the way he does, towards these precious unborn souls.
More than praying for the president, please pray for all the unborn children who will be slaughtered when this man removes the limitations and bans on all types of abortion in this country
“This man” can’t do that. Maybe a lesson on how the government works in order.
I felt exactly the same way, Heather. That’s it’s about time we had an African-American president… but that I wish he thought like I did… : ) And yes, he does need our prayers!!!!
