Emma cut her hair {before & after}

Emma has decided that she didn’t like her “Page Boy” hair cut, and replaced it with this lovely do all by herself, just in time for Christmas pictures.. sigh.

Before:

So being the creative person that I am, I experimented this morning with my head bands from when I was first losing my hair…. and VOILA!

After:

I always think it’s funny when I hear about kids cutting their own hair. Luckily, my kids haven’t surprised me with that yet. I can’t believe how cute you made it look! She looks adorable.

  3. Molly says:

Ha, my daughter gave herself a mullet, that’s right, a MULLET when she was 3 years old! It looked awful, long in the back and super short in the front! I had to chop it all to get it even and it took her 2 years to grow out. So, I am laughing right along with you, kids do the craziest stuff. Why oh why couldn’t she have experimented on her barbie doll? Anyhow, Emma looks sweet and angelic so no need to worry (: Have a wonderful Christmas Heather.

My daughter did the same thing once and we used the same creative accessory. :O)She got so many compliments that she continued to wear them long after her hair grew out again.

  6. Mandi says:

Awww, she’s still adorable ;-) And the headband rocks too! Way to go!

  7. Jesica says:

I’ve had nightmares about my kids finding scissors and getting at their hair. Because MY kids – they would never, ever make their look that cute! :)

  8. Barnie says:

I must compliment Emma on her cutting skills. She did a fairly even job. And, the headband was a stroke of genius on your part. She went from looking like Dudley Moore to Mary Tyler Moore.
You will be telling and enjoying this memory for years!
    Merry Christmas!

  9. Tina says:

Oh mercy! You’re quite clever – the end result is VERY cute!

  10. Karen says:

Fabulous fix Heather! She looks adorable :)

  11. Kate says:

Emma -Mrs. Snodgrass in St.Louis did the same thing as a little girl only she had an “Alfalfa” cut with it sticking up in the back all the way up. No fixing it for my mom. The pictures were HI larious. My mom probably didn’t think so.

    Lots of love,
    k-

The look on her face in the first pic cracks me up. “She’s taking a picture, but I think she really wants to hurt me…” And the smile in the 2nd pic says it all… Good job, and, you of all people know: it’ll grow! :-)

  13. Beverly says:

I LOVE the after picture…it’s too cute!

My daughter, from age 3 to about age 9, cut her hair four times! Oh my goodness, it shocked me each time!

    So, lesson learned…hide the scissors!

  14. Jaime says:

    Aww! She is so adorable.

My sister and I must have cut our hair 4 or 5 times between 4-9 years old. My school pictures were always messed up because of it. The worst was one year when my sister hated her cowlick standing up in the top of her head. So she chopped it. Yup– then it was worse. . .

  15. Tammy says:

She is adorable and that is hilarious! Your headband works perfectly and it looks awesome!

  16. Cory says:

“Mom, I don’t get it. My hair looks OK to me. How come you’re upset?”

    ;-)

Nice fix, by the way. She looks great!

Reminds me of the year Emelia cut an entire doggy ear off. She had to wear a side ponytail for a whole year!

  18. Susan says:

Oh, how precious!! And mom, how creative!!

  19. Pat says:

Maybe it looks different close up, but I think Emma’s cutting job is cute–it looks like a Pixie cut. I craved the Peter Pan cut when I was in kindergarten and attempted to give myself one, but my hair was too baby fine to be successful. Poor Mom!

  20. Annamaria says:

Emma looks beautiful in Mama’s headband. Did you ever think that maybe she wanted to look more like YOU, Heather? Ok, maybe it’s just fun to play with scissors, but I know “hair and the lack thereof” has been of some conversation in your household. I think she just loves you oodles!

Emma actually looks much more grown up with her new style…in a way, I know that’s not what you want to hear. However, if no one knew, no one would know (about the haircut). She looks darling.

    Peace be with you!

What is it about little kids and scissors? Great coverup, Mom!

I once came home at night from a women’s meeting and noticed a bunch of hair in the trash can. I asked Himself, “Which one of our daughters cut their hair?” He was oblivious. I had to wait until morning to find out!

  23. peepnroosmom says:

She is darling no matter what her hair cut looks like!

  24. Theresa says:

I had to chuckle! I remember these things happening with my girls at about the same age. You did a great job with the head band!

  25. T with Honey says:

You deserve some bonus points for creativity. That headband looks really cute!

  26. Casey says:

she does not look happy…however she does look cute. I remember when I did that to myself at about age 6-7. Boy was my mom mad!

  27. Kathi says:

I know every parent has a story about DIY kids hair cuts, here’s mine: My daughter was 5 when she decided to cut some of her lovely blond locks around her face on one side. She didn’t do too bad of a job, so I decided to just leave it alone and wait for it to grow out a bit. I decided to keep her hair up in pig tails, on each side of her head, to make it not so obvious. A few days later, I walk into the bathroom to find a clump of hair, still bound by the rubber band, laying in the sink! She decided to cut off the ENTIRE pig tail! I couldn’t believe what I saw and quickly found her to survey the damage…it was worse than I could imagine…she sat wearily looking at me with her one blond pig tail remaining. She began to cry and said, “I don’t like it mommy.” My heart broke and we decided it was best to always let mommy cut her hair instead.
