Heather, I am forwarding this to my husband at his office. He works in a ministry where we are told by some co workers that "we" don't have the 'Spirit' because we don't have the dancing type church they they attend. They have become so focused on how it makes THEM feel, just like this video describes. Yet their relationships are all suffering. I'm not saying it's their worship, but there is a noticeable difference in their life that shows. They are unhappy all the time. They seem to seek what THEY want out of worship. Yet worship is not about that at all. It's about giving our hearts to the Lord and magnifying HIM, not expecting a 'feeling'.

I think too often people get caught up in the music style and seek an 'experience' rather than simply praising God. I personally prefer music that has good lyrics about God that have a melody that is sweet. I don't feel comfortable with 'worship' music that would make my flesh want to move in a way that is not pleasing to the Lord.

I think this is just another area where the enemy is trying to imitate God and draw people back to the flesh. Seeking an experience rather than the Savior. I believe that in these last days we need to be very careful not to become the people of 'Laodicea'.

Thank you for sharing this.

As a worship leader, I love this post!! My heart is for the body to see worship as more then just singing songs. If we had not songs and no music at all, would we still worship? The Father seeks true worshippers, those who will worship in spirit and truth. This message hits the nail on the head, thanks for sharing it. :0) I also emailed a copy to my pastor.
Blessings~

I'm so glad I found you again. I used to read you a long time ago (around the time you were just diagnosed, I think?) but my favourites list vanished in a puff of smoke when my computer died.

Love that you've pulled closer to the One who matters most, and looking forward to sharing in your thoughts!

Amen!

Thank you for the reminder, in a powerful video, and direct message, that we are not the reason for worship (or a worship service...). It seems pretty easy to forget, and compare, and judge, instead of simply pouring out our praise and thanks for that which we neither deserve nor could ever earn.

Hi Heather! Thanks for the timely post. Our youth pastor is also focusing on worship, so I've passed it on to him.

I was on a worship team for 12 years. This is such an area of struggle for me! I want to be a jump up and down with hands in the air worshiper because that seems to be my natural reaction to the awesomeness of God, but God has not led us to that kind of church. He has taught me to sing NOT because I love the song, but because I love to praise! Still, this is easier said than done sometimes.

I'm so glad this message is filtering through the 'worship scene'...
If you have a chance, check out this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEYyBkQWFdQ
I happened across it and got so moved that I contacted the guy and organised part of his Australian tour! I wanted to hear this at my church. Strange how the focus shifts from Him to Us without us even noticing. hmm. :cwy:

To be completely honest, I have this ever before me. I know Who worship is about and I want to stay in that place. But often, more often than I wish (be it at home or in the sanctuary), I battle to get myself out of the way mentally and emotionally. Distractions and feelings can often steal this offering, unless I guard my mind and heart continually to offer myself simply and whole-heartedly to Jesus.

Much Love to you!
Holly
