When I read this blogher article, I was sold on getting an Ipad. I was amazed at it can help with, but I was most impressed with the language part. After Emma’s seizures she lost her communication skills and only says gibberish in a “sing songy” voice. It is so difficult to figure out what she wants because every day her language is different. She gets frustrated to the point of biting her arms and hands (leaving bruises) when we can not understand what she wants or needs.
It is a totally different Emma. She is unable to tell us when she needs to go to the bathroom and has to wear pull ups 24 hours a day at 9 years old.
I believe that she knows 100% what she is saying, but it just gets “lost in translation” going from her brain to her mouth.
The Ipad would be a godsend. It would not only teach her to say words, but it would also give her a way to communicate with us until then.
The only problem is…. they are upwards of 500 (not including the software). We just do not have that. So I have been racking my brain to try and figure out how we can get one. And I think I have come up with a solution…
I have put my jewelry on etsy.com and all proceeds will go towards an Ipad for Emma
Here is where you come in… can you please spread the word on your blogs/twitter/facebook? I have a button on my sidebar that links to my etsy site, you are more than welcome to put it on your blog too! And if you feel so inclined you can look at my jewelry!
Thank you so much for your support… I am amazed continually by you guys!

I was wondering if you have a paypal account that anyone could donate money for the ipad. We are interested in donating…..;)
Thank you
~Lori
Heather…..Emma has an IEP right? Does she have speech and communication needs listed on her IEP????? Our school district will now at least purchase the app for an iPad or iPad for parents of kids with severe speech and language needs. It’s a cool app….here is the link.

Maybe at least the district could purchase the app for you.
@Lori: Added it to my sidebar! Thank you for suggesting that!
@Sandi: That is the program that we are wanting to get. Yes she does have speech on her IEP, and we will try to get that through the school board once we get the ipad. It is so very expensive and I don’t know that they will pay for it..

If she has it listed as a need on her IEP you should be able to make a case for it!! Email me if you want more info. The program is SO cool!!! I love it. One of my student’s now uses it and it really has opened doors with his communication!
Heather? Just thank you.
For being real. For being such a mother. For giving us all the privilege of joining you in loving Emma.
He cups us all close tonight in Him.
I send more love than these thin letters can hold…
All’s grace,
Ann
I don’t express myself well but if I could – what Ann said…{hugs}
I ordered a gift for my mil a couple days ago – and was so happy to be a tiny part of this! Can’t wait to see what she can do with it.
xo!
Heather, I have wondered how you and Emma were doing. Please know that she will be in our prayers and as Ann said so beautifully, we also send you our love.
hugs..
I have promoted it on facebook amongst my friends. I wish I could send you some money myself.
I am currently feeling quite inept, I know you said you have a button on your sidebar linking to your etsy site but I cannot seem to find it, perhaps because it’s 4am and I haven’t slept yet . . .
Could you please tell me the name of your etsy store, thanks so much!
Never mind, I found your site
I will definitely try to get that link up! I do have a quick question. A lot of my friends (including myself) don’t wear jewelry for religious reasons but we do wear watches. Do you ever do any funky watches?
I wish you the best of luck in getting this going!
I hope you reach your target quickly – and am so happy to be able to help! Will be watching out for the postman
Much love to you all. xxx
Anymore thoughts about those “Manly” bracelets for us guys?
I don’t wear ear rings or necklaces, but I would consider a guy bracelet?
I love you dearly
Dad
I will definitely put the button on my blog!
Heather,
My daughter also has a disablitlity called Opsoclonus Myoclonus Syndrome with Nystagmus usually tied to Neuroblastoma but Sophia hass not been diagnosed with NB. They say there is a five year window but I am believing Jesus that this will not happen. Anyway, what I wanted to share with you is that OMS causes severe communication problems, frustrations, and rages. Sophia is 5 years old, in her IEP this is all stated. The school board recently purchased her an IPod Touch with Prologue2go software and it is amazing. They may not provide the iPad becaue of the expense, but please see if they can get Emma the iPod Touch which is nice and portable with the software. Wish I could send financial assistance but I am unable at this time. I wanted to give you some hope, prayers and good thoughts. I will aslo spread the word for Emma but please check into this, it will be a godsend.
God’s got this,
Tina
